It is a very rare coloration of deer called  melanism, a disorder where  an individual has darker pigmentation than the norm.   This condition is analogous to albinism but  with the opposite effect. Their slogan, “the Ritz we ain’t”, the Shack Up Inn is located on the old Hopson Plantation, a once real working plantation. Only three miles from the legendary Crossroads, at the intersection of Highways 49 and 61 the inn has a group of authentic sharecropper shacks. The temps were terrific, about 64 degrees by the gauge on my bike. People were out enjoying the great weather all over the park. Lots of bikers out too.

Established in 1879 the Yocona Cotton Mill, sometimes called Yocona Mills or Yocona Twine Mill by locals of the period, employed about 200 people during its peek operational period. Supposedly the mill produced yarn and twine, much of which was used to make secondary products such as mop heads. At the time Yocona Cotton Mill was reported to be the largest mill operation in the world.
